Why can't I proof my own site or material?
Anyone with a good eye can proofread your marketing plan or website right? Most people think that's true but it actually puts your business and written work at risk.
The average time a person spends on a website, or reading new material, is often between 3-5 seconds. All that it takes is one little spelling error and they are off to another business or your script gets tossed into that slush pile. Most people think that if you are careless enough to let silly spelling mistakes make it to your readers, that you must not be a professional and consequently aren't serious about earning new business.
The written word is usually the first impression your business makes on a future customer/client. If your format is a mess, if it has any number of spelling errors (even one is enough to make them lose respect and move on to another business - we have very short attention spans), or the punctuation is off - your business loses credibility.
Your word processing program may catch the most obvious errors of grammar and spelling but there simply is no substitute to a real proofreader.
A trained proofreader can save your business money since printing is not cheap; especially if you are printing in the hundreds or more, as well as save your company embarrassment.
